Outstanding chrome plated Chelsea Ships Clock assigned to the U. S. Coast & Geodetic Survey dates from 1920-1924 based on serial number 147319. The USC & SG was established in 1878 to survey the countries coast lines, which included: Topography, Geodesy, Hydrography, Astronomy, Oceanography, tide & current measurement and prediction, Seismology, Magnetics,National Standards, and more. At least 2 survey ships wereassigned full time to perform theseduties. This clock is inexcellentmechanical and physical condition. Clock measures 7 1/2\" across the back x 2 1/2\" deep. The bezel screws on tightly with no play. The 6\" dial has a second bits dial and slow fast adjustmentbetween the 12 and the center. The back side of the clock is stamped \"For Govt Use Only\". I am also including ahandsome mahogany wood felt lined stand which was made specifically for this size clockand fits like a glove. These USG & CS clocks are much harder to find than Coast Guard, and clocks from other branches of the service. The clock and stand weigh approximately 9 pounds unpacked.
