A Victorian Staffordshire pottery vase inthe Aesthetic or Japonaiserie style.Made bythe Old Hall Earthenware Company.Designed by Doctor Christopher Dresser.In Henry Lyons\' and Christopher Morley\'s book \"C W Dresser People\'s Designer 1834-1904\" (1999) this design is assigned the catalogue number C-188.Dr Dresser was regarded as the High Priest of Modern Design and was the leader of the Aesthetic Movement.If you use it for cut flowers, remember that pottery is slightly porous.Marks: there are painted iron red marks on the base and incised marks on thefoot rim, few of which I can read with certainty. I can make out \"95\" and \"D\".Condition: glaze crackle all over outside and inside; rubbing to gilt lip;glaze flake to foot rim.Size: 9 inches / 23 cm high, approximately.
The harmonious soft pastel colours with lush gold on the creambackground together with the interesting elephant handles and waisted silhouette make this a very decorative accent piece.
