This piece was purchased from a man who had very little information on it other than it had been in his family as long as he could remember. I have tried to research it on my own and the closest type of knife I could find was the confederate D guard bowie knife. The few people I have asked say confederate but I have not submitted this for authentication. The knife seems crudely forged and one side of the handle is black and the other brown, don\'t know why. One thing I did find online was the measurements matching some kind of spear that was supposedly commonly converted.
