An original Civil War letter including the envelope dated Niles April 15th 1865. Niles in located in MichiganThe envelope has the send to address of Stouchsburgh Berks Co Pa. On the back of the letter it looks like there is some P.S. writing and in one area the writer says, .....We had a great celebration here yesterday today our joy is turned to grief the nation is in sorrow-Oh! how great God Almighty is at the helm and the wrath of man shall yet praise him the streets are draped with mourning and sorrow is visible in almost every countenance........ This letter is dated the day Abraham Lincoln died from the assassination of John Wilkes Booth, the writer is obviously making reference to this event.

Theletter is in good condition with some wear and stain marks, some words are hard to read, the envelope has some wear and it has a lot of pencil scribling on the back.
