DL&W (Delaware, Lackawanna & Western) RR 1932 dining car service luncheon menu
Price: US $75.00
1932 Lackawanna Railroad Dining Car Service Luncheon menu. On the front is a note in fountain pen ink \"Mail to Mrs. Edward E. Loomis at her town house address\". Loomis was the vice president of the railroad at the time, and the menu must have been requested by him or his wife. By the offhand reference to their New York townhouse, the staff clearly knew the address. The menu must have been kept by Mrs. Loomis for posterity, as \"1932\" was lightly penned into the inside upper right corner some time later. Mr & Mrs Loomis took frequent trips on the Lackawanna between their farm in Murray Hill, N.J. and New York City; this menu was given to the seller by their late daughter sometime in the early 1980s.
Measures 9-3/8\" high x 5-7/8\" wide. Menu shows some wear on the outside from handling although the inside is clean and bright. Marked \"D4 1200-1-14-32 Ltd.\" on the rear at the bottom right corner. The lettering of the red header text inside and the blue Lackawanna name on the back reflect the Art Deco period in which it was printed. This Art Deco lettering was not frequently seen in Lackawanna publications and makes this menu all the more desirable.

*correction, the handwritten \"1932\" date is penned onto the upper lefthand corner of the front cover, as the photo shows.
