DUNHILL 1922 RARE DUAL CANADIAN PATENT SHELL YACHTSMAN 183/24-WOW
Price: US $204.49
This is one of the oldest, if not the oldest Canadian Patent Shell you\'ll find and is quite a rare shape for the time. The \"Dunhill\'s Shell\" was introduced in 1917 and made from Algerian Briar which they found to be the softest of the briar available, and yielded more to the blast making for the amazing finish seen here that we all know and love. Super craggy, yet still somehow soft and elegant, simply phenomenal. I had a bit of a time reading the first patent number as it is a bit worn but the patents read as follows: 209845/21 & 197365/20 2. The 2 sits just off to the right of the \"0\" in the second patent number and is not underlined next to the \"D\" in ENGLAND but I do believe this is the date code which indicates 1922. If it was a 1932 it would be a 12. The first patent number indicates the pipe is a Blast and that it is Oil Cured. The pipe is in overall great condition for being 96 years old. The vulcanite stem is original with the small opaque white spot. The shape 183/24 to me is Dunhills first rendition of the Yachtsman, essentially a quarter bent Dublin.
This pipe is quite a gem for many reasons. The date, the shape, the blast, etc. Truly a phenomenal piece of Dunhill History.
