Here is a nice, early, sterling silver, overlay, spade bit. It is a loose jaw bit and the bit is unmarked. It retains a lot of the black finish on the inside of the cheeks and mouth piece, see photos. I think this was part of their heat treatment. The silver sure looks sterling and is good and tight with no lifting. It was solid black and I polished it for the photos. It has very intricate engraving by a master bit maker. The inside measurement is 5" and the overall length is 7 1/2". The spoon spade is 2 3/4" and has a nice, big, metal roller. It is a great bit to use or collect. See my other sales.
