Available here is the set of 29 definitive stamps issued between July 1919 and early 1920.
The basicperforated set of 20 was augmented by an additional set of 9 issuedimperforate.
The set has gracious Art-Nouveau (Jugendstil) designs by J. F. Renner:
- a posthorn,
- the arms of Austria,
- and the new republic allegorised as a young man planting a sapling.
The Republic of German-Austria (German: Republik Deutschösterreich or Deutsch-Österreich) was created following World War I as the initial rump state for areas with a predominantly German-speaking population within what had been the Austro-Hungarian Empire.On September 10, 1919, the Austrian President Renner signed the Treaty of Saint Germain and it was ratified by the National Assembly on October 21. According to its provisions, the country had to change its name from \"German Austria\" to Austria.
