We are pleased to offer this museum worthy George III sterling tea urn.
Bearing coat of arms and crest. Shield with radiating sun, twin stars and melon. Above crest of a radiating star.
From Edward Fernell in 1787. This is an early example as the very first known dates only to c1760. Waldron page 322 illustrates an identical one.
Classic tapering urn with fluted corner.
Bright cut engraved oval medallion suspended from ribbon and bow. United by drapery and swag, with twin tassel. Bright cut border work throughout.
Cover is hallmarked and topped with globe cap urn finial.
Elephant ear arms, spread leaf terminal.
Well cast slender reeded spout. Original hand carved rosewood shield form finial.
Squared pedestal base with bright cut work.
Vine cap tapering column and scroll feet.
English sterling tea urn is 23 1/2 inches tall and 98 1/2 standard ounces.
Hallmarked as shown.
In very fine condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Stands perfectly firm on table or display shelf. The crest and coat of arms and bright cut decoration retains most of their original detail. Mild wear interior heating element lacking.
