Very fine brass or bronze box, decorated in the Secessionist - Jugendstil - art Nouveau taste
and made by Erhard & Söhne of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany.

Signed on the bottom with the company’s stamped hallmark of a Lion standing on an “E”.

This box is beautifully designed with stylized geometric designs in several layers of relief and a central panel depicting six eight robed figures in ancient classical robes. The details are very fine and similar to the work seen on coins. The overall NeoClassical look is very much in keeping with the work of the Austrian Secessionist workshops being done at the same time during the eraly 20th century.

The box is lined with unfinished wood panels. The outside of the box has developed an beautiful rich darkened glossy patina over the past century. The metal is fairly light in weight, but the box has a nice solid feel when held. It is one of Erhard and Sohne’s best and most striking designs in my opinion.AGE: Circa 1910. Early 20th Century. Good condition, as shown in the photos and with the following noted: Light wear to the darkened patina showing highlights to the brass / bronze in the higher area of the designs.
