An exquisite1871 green silk moire dress that was worn by Mrs. John H. Brower at the weddingof her daughter Mrs. Thomas Browing Hewitt, April 12, 1871. The bodice and sleeve cuffs are trimmed withblack Chantilly lace. The one piecedress has an attached peplum belt. Thebelt has lace trimmed front lappets and the back has lace trimmed centerpeplum. The bodice is lined with cottonand has a front button closure. The neckand armscyes are piped. The skirt islined with cotton and has a wide back sweep.The dress is in very good and sturdy condition. There is one small split near one of thebuttons and small areas of underarm discoloration. The front of the bodice has two circles agemarks. (See photos.) There are a coupleof tiny splits within the age marks. Thelace trim covers the age marks.
