Thank you for having a look at my sales. We are very excited this week to be featuring our second session of items from the Important estate collection of the late Michael Vermeer. Mr. Vermeer is literally a famous figure when it comes to Chinese ceramics starting his career in the late 1960s in his early 20s. With close to 50 years experience Mr. Vermeer was thought by many to be one of the worlds top Chinese ceramic experts and authorities. Celadon, Monochrome, Dehua, and Flambe wares were Mr. Vermeer’s passion and over the years Mr. Vermeer was commissioned by top world museums and sale houses to appraise and accurately identify important works of Chinese art. Examples from the Vermeer collection can be found in top collections, sold at top sale houses, and in books all over the world. I believe this is one of our finest sales to date featuring many of the choice examples from the collection. You very rarely see estate collections of this amazing quality and size come up for sale, a sale not to be missed!

Up for sale is a very rare Chinese Wucai enamel fish vase from the important Vermeer estate collection.

This vase is a fine and I believe rarely found example. The vase has a Wanli mark to the base and I am told may even be of the period. Not having handled another example like this to be safe I am selling the vase as a Ming to Qing dynasty period example and I will let you decide its exact age yourself. I have read that the Wanli emperor was fascinated by earlier Ming Jiajing Wucai wares and ordered the imperial kilns to make large amounts of Jiajing designed Wucai wares like this at the time. The vase has very interesting features with swimming fish done in underglazed blue and yellow enamel. Unfortunately, the vase does have a crack to the base that extends slightly up the side and a star crack to the body that can only be noticed upon close inspection. The vase could be restored if one desired but I thought for its rarity should still be a desirable find as it is presently with no restoration work or missing pieces. This vase is a large size example that displays beautifully measuring 12 inches tall, by 10 inches wide. I believe it may be some time before you see another unique example such as this up for sale, mostly being offered without reserve!
