On Night 2 there is incredible Estate Treasures including Museum quality Glass, Porcelain and Clocks plus a large collection of Stemware including Waterford and so much more. Up for sale with is an extremely Rare and I believe important c1890 Japanese Meiji Period Sterling Silver and Enamel Tea Caddy Jar. The Jar is the finest example of a Japanese Sterling Silver Tea Caddy that I have ever had the pleasure to sell and one of the finest I have ever seen period. The Tea Caddy is Solid Sterling Silver and is overlaid in various coloured Cloisonne Enamels with complex and highly naturalistic Iris Flowersand Wisteria blooms and foliage. The Jar is so much finer than my photos show, the enamel work is just incredible featuring rich Jewel tones throughout including Purple to the Wisteria blooms, Green to the Leaves, plus Reds, Blues, Yellows, Purples and more Green to the Iris Flowers. The Enamel decoration even extends onto the Lid. The Jar also features both of it\'s original lids, which is designed to keep the Tea the freshest it can be. The Jar is marked with Japanese characters to the base as well as V.M. I did a little research and the only comparable example I could find was a Tea Set with very similar enamel work and then far more simple examples which were all noted as being made by the Important Japanese Silversmiths Musashiya of Yokohama around 1890. The Tea Caddy has also been tested and is guaranteed to be 950 Grade Solid Silver, which is finer than Sterling Silver and thehighest quality one could hope to find. The Tea Caddy is in very fine all original condition for the antique age with some minor marks throughout as seen. If you look very closely you will see some small signs of cracking to the enamel asI am sure would be found on any example of this age, I did not see any missing enamel. The Tea Caddy is a nice period size measuring5 inches tall by3-1/2 inches wide and has a quality weight of264 grams. I think you will look for a very long time before you see another Tea Caddy like this, especially up for sale without reserve !
