Up for sale is a superb and extremely rare antique French Limoges triptych of the Annunciation of Anne de Bretagne with King Louis Xll. This incredible triptych is fresh from a prominent Toronto estate collection of European decent. The lady that consigned this triptych is in her 80s and she said this was a family piece and gift from her father that brought the triptych to Canada when they immigrated in the earlier 1900’s. She indicated the plaque was a family heirloom and in the family’s collection long before her father brought it to Canada.

The Triptych is of astonishing quality with breathtakingly fine details throughout. I am obviously not an expert of such pieces, and this is the only example like this I have personally ever seen. I was able to find a virtually identical example online that is part of the Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco as seen. In the Museum notes they say this triptych is by an important un-named artist famously known as “Master of the Louis Xll”. They date the example they have at the c1500 period. This plaque I am offered definitely has good and legitimate early age and may in fact be of the period. However, seeing I am not an expert I am selling this triptych as possibly being a later antique example and will let you ultimately decide its exact age for yourself. It is well worth some time to look into this plaque. If this triptych is of the period, I am sure it would be considered a highly important find and is likely worth an astonishing amount. I am sure by the superb quality of this triptych being from whatever date it would still be an extremely disable and valuable find.

The triptych plaques are housed in a wood frame that appears to be oak. The triptych can be closed and has an old hand wrought iron clasp and top hanging hook. Upon close inspection I have discovered the plaques are held in place with small slotted screws that are also early handmade screws. The enamel on copper plaques themselves are in superb original condition with some very light craze lines here and there to the enamel that I am sure would be found on any antique example like this. The enamel plaques have no losses, or repairs. I have closely inspected the plaques under UV black light that reveals no damage or restorations of any kind. The triptych is a beautiful piece to display when fully opened measuring 12 5/8 inches wide, by 11 inches tall not including the top clasp. The largest central enamel plaque itself measures 5 1/2 inches wide, by 6 inches tall.

I believe this triptych is a special example and is something that one would very rarely have the opportunity to acquire outside a major sale house. The triptych is much more beautiful in person than I can take pictures of. A truly astonishing Museum quality example.
