Ca. 900 AD – 1100 ADOne of the rarest of the Southwest artifacts the Hohokam human effigies. The majority of these pieces are typically just bodiless heads. Little is known about these small clay humans, several fragmentary examples were excavated at Snaketown in the 1930\'s. See \"Excavations at Snaketown\" Haury ISBN#65-23304 starting at page 245. The majority of these figures are that of females leading most Archeologists to believe they are similar in religious beliefs as the Mother Goddess figures in the Middle East, Egypt, Rome and Meso-America. 
These figures never have arms as they were pinned on with small sticks. They have the elongated \"Katchina\" like facial features and are usually just buff fired silt or tempered clay.
