FINE AUTHENTIC OLD NORTHWEST COAST HAIDA ARGILLITE TOTEM SIGNED TOM HANS
Price: US $495.00

A fine old genuine hand carved Northwest Coast Haida Indian argillite totem pole dating from the mid 1900\'s. The totem features great well carved imagery featuring an Eagle perched on the tail fin of a diving killer whale, with a frog form base. Great sculptural detail all round, note the pierced section through the tail. The totem is carved by master carver Tom Hans who was born in 1925 and comes from the village of Skidegate and is from the Eagle clan whose Indian name is \"Iyea\"and was a carver of argillite since 1937. The totem stands just 6 1/4\" tall on a rectangular base measuring 2 1/4\" x 1 3/4\" and is signed \"Carved by Tom Hans Skidegate BC\" to the back. It is in very good condition with no chips or repairs, some minimal light surface scratches as expected with age and handling noted. Tom comes from a great family of carvers and was taught by his father Ike to carve argillite. Toms work is growing in more collector appreciation and this is one from the pinnacle of his career. The totem is in excellent condition for its age and is fully guaranteed to be 100 % real argillite, hand carved and old . Argillite is the slate black rock that is only found in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia and all known reserves are the sole and closely guarded property of the Haida tribe. This museum quality totem will make a great display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection . Please add $9.95 for careful shipping and insurance (USA). Good Luck and Happy offerding. We\'ll be happy to combine shipping if feasible. Please check out other current offerings including a great Tlingit and Kwakiutl totem poles , Salish and Makah baskets and some great early Inuit carvings.
