FINE NORTHWEST COAST HAIDA INDIAN ARGILLITE PLATTER RUFUS MOODY
Price: US $1313.00

A great authentic Northwest Coast Haida Indian genuine argillite platter by master carver Rufus Moody (1923-1998) circa 1974. The platter features a Killer whale carved in deep relief . I really like how he\'s filled the entire surface with finely carved details. The platter measures 9 1/3\" L x 4 3/4\" wide and is approx 1\" thick. Condition is excellent with no chips, damages or repairs, signed \"Rufus Moody Esq CM\" and dated \" Oct 31,1974\" to the bottom. Carved during the peak of his career, this platter is an excellent example of Rufus best work. Rufus Moody was born in Skidigate village on the Queen Charlotte Islands and was the grandson of early argillite carver Thomas Moody. Rufus was one of the most prolific carvers of the mid 1900\'s and was also well known teacher to the younger artists. He\'s credited with carving the tallest argillite totem pole in existence six feet tall and housed at the museum of Anthropology at UBC. He received the order of Canada in 1976 for his role as an established argillite carver and teacher of the arts. The platter is fully guaranteed to be 100 % real argillite, hand carvedand old . Argillite is the slate black rock that the only carve-able source is only found in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia and all known reserves are the sole and closely guarded property of the Haida tribe. This museum quality totem will make agreat display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection . Please add $12 for careful shipping and insurance (USA). Good Luck and Happy offerding. We\'ll be happy to combine shipping if feasible. Please check out other current offerings including a great Tlingit and Kwakiutl totem poles and some great early Inuit carvings.
