Finely Woven Vintage Lidded Makah / Nootka Indian Basket w/ Birds Design
Price: US $69.88
Up for sale is a lovely, well crafted, older Makah / Nootka Indian basket with a fine weave and a nice shape and design. The basket was woven of cedar bark and beargrass, and has an unusual tapered shape, rather than the more common straight sided baskets. There are red stripes on the sides and the lid and a traditional starburst design on the center of the lid. Four flying birds decorate the sides of the basket. If you look at the underside of the basket, you can see the classic woven start made of cedar bark. The lid of the basket has the traditional inner lip also made of cedar bark. This is an older and finely woven Makah Indian basket from the early-to-middle years of the past century, and it makes a very attractive piece for display.

The basket is a nice largish size for one of these vintage Makahs, measuring 3½\" across at the widest point on its rounded sides and 2½\" deep. I am pleased to tell you that this basket is in just outstanding condition with no breaks or any other damage. The inner rim is all intact, as is the base and the weavers on the sides. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket\'s features and condition. It will make a terrific addition to someone\'s collection of vintage Northwest Indian baskets.
