Franklin Mint`s Marilyn Monroe Happy Birthday Mr President Singing Doll
Price: US $90.00

This Gorgeous16-inch vinyl portrait doll of Marilyn Monroe from the Franklin Mint recreates the memorable night of Saturday, May 19, 1962 when Marilyn sang \"Happy Birthday, Mr. President\" to President John F. Kennedy at a Madison Square Garden celebration of his 45th birthday (ten days before his actual birthdate of May 29). The song and Monroe\'s performance have been remembered for numerous reasons (like her provocative dress and sultry voice), but also because it was one of her last major public appearances before her death less than 3 months later on August 5, 1962.

Marilyn\'s dress was noted for being made of a sheer and flesh-colored marquisette fabric, with 2,500 shimmering rhinestones sewn into it. It was designed by Jean Louis. Peter Lawford, who introduced Marilyn at the event, made a play on her reputation for tardiness by giving her a number of introductions throughout the night, after which (of course) she did not appear on stage. When Marilyn finally appeared in a spotlight, Lawford introduced her as the \"late Marilyn Monroe\". She peeled off her white ermine fur coat, revealing the dress, and the audience gasped.

Monroe sang the traditional \"Happy Birthday To You\" lyrics in a sultry, intimate voice, with \"Mr. President\" inserted as Kennedy\'s name. Afterwards, Kennedy came on stage for the presentation of a giant birthday cake and joked about her performance of the song, saying \"I can now retire from politics after having had Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way,\" alluding to Marilyn\'s delivery, skintight dress, and image as a sex symbol.

Now you can recreate that momentous event as often as you\'d like with this AWESOME ensemble from the Franklin Mint which includes a Marilyn Monroe 16\" tall vinyl portrait doll wearing a reproduction of that infamous dress with strappy heels and rhinestone studded dangle earrings, a microphone, and a musical base that plays Marilyn Monroe singing \"Happy Birthday, Mr. President\" when the giant Marilyn signature button on the front is pressed!

The musical base still works great.
