Impressive OLD Navajo sterling silver squash blossom necklace consisting of a large sand cast naja with three natural turquoise stones and eleven long stemmed squash blossom pendants on each side. The naja and pendant stems have a diagonal filed edge on one side and a plain edge on the other side. The side blossom pendants have three petaled end flutes. The necklace is strung on tigertail wire with THREE rows of globular approximately 7mm diameter HANDMADE silver beads and is finished with a simple hook and eye clasp. The wonderful beads have hand filed seams. There are also two spacer bars on each side after the last squash blossom. This necklace could use restringing. It looks like it was recently badly restrung. Whoever restrung it didn’t realize that there was a front and back to the pendants. I would have it restrung so that all of the filed edge stems are facing up. Also, the necklace bunches up at the end. When it is restrung, I would have the beads taper into a single strand after the last spacer bar. This would also lengthen the necklace! It could also be squaw wrapped at the ends and strung on better material like foxtail wire. Anyway, I will leave the restringing up to the lucky new owner so that they can customize it to their specific desires.

Overall, excellent quality and very good condition. There are a couple of minor dings to the silver beads if you closely inspect the necklace, but I just think that it adds character and shows wear. The attractive stones have a crude early cut style. Unsigned, as is typical of jewelry of this era – ca. 1930’s.
