Offered for sale is a beautiful Super Olds Cornet. Based on the serial # of 4XXX, this horn was manufactured between 1937-1938.The horn was American made by F. E. Olds and Son in Los Angeles California. This Super Olds plays in B-flat and by extending the long, curved tuning slide, plays in A as well.The horn is gold plated with nickel inlay. Both look fine with some patina added over many years.The nickel tone ring is beautifully hand engraved. The water keys are swooped that not only looks great, but also allow the player to empty all three at once.These horns are works of art as well as music makers.This cornet has a big sound, great intonation and slots well. Compression is good.The mouthpieces for this horn is not the same as current cornet or trumpet mouthpieces. They are readily available online and at some local instrument shops. Two correctly sized mouthpieces are included with this horn; a vintage, re-silvered Olds 3 and a new Curry Precision 1.5.The case is the original Bulwin, and is in great shape inside and out. This case is unique in that it has a zippered pocket lined with split leather to contain the horn.This horn has been well maintained and has only been owned by two people.
