Thisis a Harley Fitzhugh Saddle out of Three Forks, Montana in goodused condition.

This is a beautiful example of cowboy craftsmanship. I spent some time figuring out the name on the near worn off maker stamp and then researching that maker. Harley Fitzhugh was born in 1898 in Missouri and moved to Montana as a young boy. He made saddles from the 1920s until his death in 1956. I was only able to find a few dated examples of his work and this saddle looks like one of his earlier pieces. I\'m guessing it was made in the 1930s but it could be earlier. It features a high back, round skirt and really cool cowhide-covered horn. It looks like the leather of the rigging has been restored but the brass rings are well aged. The original genuine sheepskin fleece is showing wear in spots but is in pretty good shape.

The leather of this saddle is exceptional, buttery soft and well oiled when I got it. The skirt is rounded and measures 25\" front to back. The off billets look original and are thick, soft and flexible. The wood stirrups are tin and leather wrapped and adjust with leather lacing.

The seat measures 14\" fromthe back of the swell to the cantle stitching. The gullet measures 6-1/2\". I can see a rawhide-wrapped tree when I peek under the skirt.

This saddle has clearly been well cared for and is in great condition for it\'s age. This is not just a wall hanger, this is a solid, well-made saddle. I included a close-up of the left fender where it has been stitched to reinforce a nip in the edge. There is also a picture of the right side of the swell where there is a missing concho.

I tried to take pictures of all angles so you could really see what you\'re getting but please let me know if you need any other photos or measurements. Please note: there are so many different methods for measuring gullet width: I followed the technique suggested on saddlemakers.org to get the 6-1/2\" I have listed here. The front view picture I have included with a tape measure gives you a general idea of gullet angle but if you need something more, let me know.

This is a heavy saddle that will be expensive to ship so I\'m going to have a no refunds policy on this one. Please keep that in mind when you\'re offerding.
