Hooker, OK, RPPC ? photo postcard, Guymon Concert Band, Illinois hotel, railroad
Price: US $16.37
This is truly an amazing photo type postcard of people from the early 1900\'s standing in front of \"The Illinois\" hotel in Hooker, Oklahoma. The most interesting part of the group is the Guymon Concert Band (from Guymon,OK) standing in front with their old instruments! I searched the internet for any info on the hotel or the band. I finally found reference to \"The Illinois\" hotel in a copy of \"The Hooker Advance\" newspaper from Friday, August 23, 1912. There was reference to the \"Guymon Concert Band\" in \"The Guymon Herald\" Thursday, March 7, 1907. This card is also amazing because on the postmark on back you see the card is an R.P.O. (Railroad Post Office) card. The post markings show the card was sent by way of the K.C.& El Paso railway which was a short lived railroad going through the Oklahoma panhandle. It is hard to see the date on the post mark and you cannot see under the stamp to know when the card was made. You can see that writing was not yet allowed on the address side of the postcard. Thus, we do know this card had to have been made before March 1907 when the government finally allowed writing on the address side. Also, I cannot verify that this is a real photo postcard because I do not want to possibly damage the card by pulling up the stamp. I do think it is a real photo by looking at the smooth shiny surface (with no little printing dots) of the front picture. Thanks for looking and reading and let me know of any questions!
