Did you know that Hartland neverproduced a Hopalong Cassidy model? They DID produce an early Champ Cowboydressed in black and riding a white Champ Horse, known simply as the black Champ Cowboy. That cowboy had brown hair and wore a white hat, andhe was never purported to be a model of Hopalong Cassidy. The only company that had a license to produce models of Hopalong Cassidy in the early1950s was Ideal Toys. You can still find a few of those on .

As portrayed on the screen,white-haired Bill \"Hopalong\" Cassidy was usually clad strikingly inblack, including his hat, which was an exception to the western film stereotype that onlyvillains wore black hats. William Boydwas the only actor who played Hopalong Cassidy, beginning in 1935. In the very first film, Hopalong Cassidy got his nickname after being shot in the leg (thenspelled \"Hop-along\"). After appearing in a total of 66 movies, BillBoyd\'s Hopalong Cassidy became the first network western televisionseries, first airing in June of 1949. Theseries and character were so popular that Hopalong Cassidy was featured on thecover of national magazines such as Look, Life and Time. To this day, Hopalong Cassidy items of all sorts are still popular collectibles.

This Hartlandcowboy started out as the 800 Series Lone Ranger but has become a striking model of HopalongCassidy wearing his usual black pants and high black boots with silver trim. Hehas a removable black felt hat with a silver band around it. His gun belt and holsters have been detailedwith silver, and he carries two custom silver pistols. “HartlandPlastics Inc.” is stamped on the underside of his left forearm.

Topper wasHartland’s semi-rearing version of Silver, molded of unpainted white plastic measuring 8½ inches tall and about 10inches long. His hooves have beenpainted a natural color and his nose is slightly pinked to match the originalTopper (see photo of the REAL Topper and Hoppy included). His original molded bridle has been augmented to match Topper\'s usualtack. The bridle has three forehead conchos between finely painted silver chains. He has a leather breastplateand tie down, and a hand molded saddle with uncovered stirrups which werecrafted to actually accommodate the rider\'s feet. The cowboy and saddle can be removed but the rest of the tack is designed to stay on the horse. (As with the 900 Series Champ Cowboys, you will need to put the rider into the saddle before placing the saddle on the horse.)
