HUGE 17 inch c.1860 Sheffield BOWIE KNIFE - MINT Bird\'s Head STAG grips w/SHEATHStunningly large \"Battle\" Bowie Knife likely from the Civil War era.
Several unique fighting features on this antique knife include an unusual two tier Bird\'s head grip and extra wide cross guard.Marked \"Warranted Cast Steel Sheffield\", unmarked as to the maker could indicate an earlier knife. This knife was possible one of the mass produced Battle knives sent out for the American Civil War.Blade forge is very thick just under 1/4 or .25 inch at the base.
The blade is full tang with an unusual thinning, tapered forge at the base of the handle.
The stag handle is darkened with original patina and is in perfect condition, no cracks or chips at all.
One false drill hole from the original maker is seen. Pins are hammered brass.
Extremely rare original leather spacer is present at the base of the blade.
The original leather sheath is in very fine condition and the frog belt loop is present.Stunning Sheffield spear point blade measures 12.25 inches.
Knife is extremely large at just over 17 inches overall.
