Huge Civil War Confederate D-Guard Bowie-Battle of Franklin,Tenn-Lotz House
Price: US $1009.50
This knife is a behemouth among Confederate bowies and would be a crown jewel in any collection or by itself, probably made from a leaf spring, showing plenty of battle scars as well as construction marks. The steel blade is wavy from forge work to make this knife a truly one of a kind, the steel guard has a mid-ridge line angled for strength. the tip was blunted during the period of use as soldiers wore them in their belts and suffered stabbings in the leg or calf area from the knife tip during marches, this is not a stabbing knife but a hacking, fighting weapon, a couple of blade marks i believe were made by crushing the rounded back spines of period import yankee swords.I and others believe its origin was from Georgia, i believe made in 1864, by or for the Army of the Tennessee, camped out in western Georgia re-arming the men in various local confederate armories after losing the battle of Atlanta, shortly after production this knife was used in the Battle of Franklin, Tenn--the bloodiest hand to hand fighting of the entire war between the Lotz and Clark houses, the devils half acre, in hand to hand combat bodies were 3-6 deep some died standing as there was no where to fall down !!--this knife is almost 29\" long the blade just shy of 2 ft looks like strip iron has a slight wave to it. This battle became the swan song of the Confederacy and the army of the Tennesee.Obviously made as a bowie with 9 inch clipped point, shows about a dozen knife or sword battle scars, patina to die for, fabulous walnut coffin style grips still has the inventory TAG from the Lotz House museum where it was displayed in residence since the war and sold out the back door in the 1980\'s by the curator/owner who had a drug problem, many a fine weapon now in collections originated from this collection. One and only, Biggest-Badass Bowie---imagine the size of the confederate wielding a knife of this size, nearly 3.5 lbs, with fire in his heart and blood in his eyes, cutting and slashing his way thru Yankee soldiers and finally either getting killed himself or abandoning this knife where nearly 3000 men lay slaughtered in front of the Lotz House.
On one sees many phoney made up d-guards with stories serving only to sour a novice collector wanting to invest in an authentic piece only to be disillusioned by trickery. This is not the case here, this is a guaranteed piece for life, mine, yours or anyone elses , like-wise the reserve is commensurate with the rarity and quality still on the low end of the value of this fine piece. So, don\'t expect to lowball the offer and win it, i don\'t need the money to eat, i started it at $100 dollars but this piece should bring more at sale than has been offer in a long time on the forum. Quality and rarity begets an equally impressive price tag.I invite you to contact me by phone to prove myself and the item are real-as always I love confederate and quality union swords and rare knives and enjoy speaking with fellow collectors and enthusiasts.kindest regards-ted--- 719-689-3007 coloradoAlso: see my flintlock Kentucky rife on gunbroker

Please-I have had plenty of calls and emails on this item trying to buy it off --I ask that all persons having an interest do some research as to the value of such an item--just look up \"large confederate bowie\" or confederate knives or d-guards--there are thousands of bowies out there from 9 inch blade varieties to the common 12\" to 16\" bowies called huge. large or gigantic blades, i guess if your looking at the knife in the hands of a person ready to run you thru thats a big knife. My knife is beyond the norm of huge, large or gigantic !!! this is a behemouth as rare as it gets !!-with not only a looong blade, great forged guard and coffin walnut grips this resembles a full optioned cadillac, matching that with great provenance, condition and guarantee of authenticity, this is a bragging piece if there ever was one, just to hold it in your hand raises ones testosterone 400 points.
