A huge ancient Khmer storage vessel, dating to 800 – 1450 AD.

A rustic vessel, sitting upon a flat base, the body widening out to the high shoulders before narrowing again at the short neck. Four small strap handles run alongside the top, the body covered in a thick black glaze with decorative white patterns throughout.

The powerful Khmer Empire was a Hindu-Buddhist civilization that existed in Southeast Asia roughly around the time of the western middle-ages. Its most famous legacy is the world famous Angkor Wat, which was the site of the capital city during the empire\'s golden age.
