Found in Wapello County, Iowa on a site known for Indian Artifacts. I suspect the larger of the two pieces was used as a mortar, maybe for grinding hematite for paint or possibly for grain, although I doubt the latter. I thought they looked good together, so that is how I am selling them. So, you get both for one money. These were plowed field finds in an area known as a camp ground for various tribes. The Ioway Indians had an encampment within 30 miles of here. Black Hawk & Pashepaho passed through several times, and Black Hawks original burial spot was within the same 30 miles. Hardfish\'s camp was only 20 miles away. So, I am located in a very prime area for artifacts. Are these two worth a million dollars? No, but offer accordingly.
