Bronzital consists of 92% copper, 6% aluminum and 2 % nickel. These coins have bronzital rings. The centers are acmonital.
AcmonitalAcmonital is also a metal alloy created by the Italians for the purpose of creating coins. The desired characteristics are a bright shiny silver color that is less prone to oxidation. The 1940\'s 20 Centesimi to the 2 Lire coins were made of this material. Acmonital consists of varying amounts of iron, nickel, chromium and vanadium. Essentially it is a Stainless Steel. The ferromagnetic properties of the metal can be reduced to near zero by altering theamountof nickel used in the process. That is why some of the 1940 Italian coins are magnetic and others are not.Truly Fascinating!
