I had to spend some time to sharpen it. Though it isn't perfectly sharp I managed to set a consistent edge keeping the angle. Ended with some 20 stropes on leather and it cuts well. Not yet razor sharp but definitely satisfying to chop vegetables, meat or bread. After every use the carbon steel needs cover in oil. Each time I use it it feels good in the hand and looks like a million Valentin

Really solid gift, came well packaged, intact and oiled, had a lovely leather holder, didn't need sharpening as many knives do. Gave it as a gift to my Grandfather who liked a different one I got my brother a while back. Obviously it needs to be kept dry and/or oiled, but even if that's too much fuss I think it's a lovely ornamental and sentimental gift for a good price.

I brought this for my Fiancé as he has always wanted a Damascus knife , especially one for the kitchen as he is the cook of the house . The knife arrived earlier than expected which is always a good thing . Casing is great , the design and pattern is beautiful and is very sharp . The person who made this should be very proud of there work !
