The i7 6700 is still a very viable CPU, on par with/better than some later gen CPUs. Just be aware that anything that's Intel 7th gen or older won't take Windows 11. Otherwise, it is still pretty good for most things. It clocks pretty high on my system, about 3.9 a lot of the time. If you're stepping up within the 6th generation, be aware that this is an 8 thread CPU and draws more power than the 4 thread units.

Task: upgrade younger brother old rig. I have a bunch of LGA1151 boards laying around, so purchasing a very past gen i7 like this made sense for me. I would say if you’re building from scratch, buy a new i3 as they outperform older i7s for around the same price for CPU/mobo/ram combo. I’m always a little weary of second hand hardware. But I’m happy to say I’ve had no issues with this CPU thus far.
