Dell's E6400 is definitely a must buy if you're looking for a good and reliable laptop on a budget. You easily replace the hard drive and memory to make it a little faster. Replacing the drive takes minutes and can really speed up this computer. I used a solid state drive that cost me about $70 and it feels like the computer is running twice as fast. This is one of best laptops Dell has made in the recent past. I have been working on Dell Latitude laptops and this one has no known issues like all the other laptops in this price range.

The laptop brought a bad battery which was not disclosed in the ad. A few letters on the keyboard do not function either. I did not complain because I only use it to watch guitar demos on you tube. Otherwise, it would have been a serious issue. Everything else on the notebook works fine.

This is an easy to use, high performance machine with an ergonomicly friendly mouse pad. It has beautiful graphics, but for some reason provides a low score on ratings. I put it side by side with another top brand and found it similar. It's fast with internal wi-fi, so easy to get connected. The durable case is a joy to hold as it feels sturdy. (Like some older models though, the hinges benefit if one supports the back of the case when walking around with the laptop). There is no back-up partition, but none needed in my experience. Get a large enough HD, say 160GB and some Works type Program and all set.
This is an excellent computer for everyday use. I purchased it for the lowest price that I've ever seen on ebay. I've owned multiple Dell laptops and this is my second Inspiron. I did upgrade the memory to achieve top performance. It has an excellent display and a comfortable key layout. I don't particularly care for the touchpad so I cover it with a piece of cardboard -- but that is just my personal preference. I use a wireless mouse instead. While the hard drive on this unit was somewhat small, I use an external terabyte hard drive for major data storage so the size of the internal drive isn't as important to me.
The laptop was sold as refurbished. I expected that the laptop would at least meet most functional capability of the original manufacturers laptop. The laptop booted up with WIN 7 and several applications loaded on the system. The keyboard and touch pad functioned as expected. However the battery was deficient, it would not sustain operation for a 1 second power interruption. The refurbisher included a notice that the battery was not tested, I did not expect detail testing but the non function of the battery should have been stated.
