We recently found ourselves the "conservators" of a large volume of family photos after my father in law passed away and no one else wanted the job of sorting through scads of old prints and slides. I needed a scanner that would handle both of those, as well as film negatives. After extensive research I decided to get the Epson Perfection V600 and purchased a refurbished one. So far it's been great to use. Within minutes I was scanning slides, photos and negatives. The quality on each for what I'm doing is perfect. Keep in mind these are family photos, snapshot quality, however some of the slides are from the 1950's and 1960's, as are some of the film negatives. The color seems true, images are crisp and clear with no haziness or fuzziness. I haven't found any issues yet with the quality of what is being scanned in. The speed is excellent, at least compared to my old Dimage slide scanner. I'm using this with a Mac computer, running OS 10.13.3. There haven't been any compatibility issues, although I did get some additional software downloaded from the Epson website to ensure everything was current. That being said, the only reason that I am not giving the scanner 5 stars is that the documentation is lacking. There wasn't anything in it that told me how to go about setting up the preparation for scanning multiple print photos at one time but having the scanner recognize each individually. I had to do some internet research for that, and was lucky enough to find a video by an enterprising young man that did a great job of explaining it. So while the machine itself is good, Epson needs to beef up it's user manual.Read full review

Easy to set-up, easy to use, excellent resolution. Color correction software is very good. The ability to make corrections pre-scan is also very good. In the 2 months that I have had I have scanned in hundreds of photos. The downsides: does not scan to the very edge of the glass plate and how close to the edge it gets is not uniform. The dust removal software is so-so. The negative and slide scans are good but there is a learning curve to get good results.
