The Games: Winter Edition features seven events: Downhill Skiing, Slalom, Luge, Figure Skating, Ski Jump, Cross-Country Skiing, and Oval-Track Speed Skating. Four modes of play are available: Compete in All Events, Compete in Some Events, Compete in One Event, and Practice One Event. After selecting the mode of play users choose which country they wish to represent from a list of seventeen.
Speed skating and cross-country skiing can be played by two players at the same time via split-screen. Both events also feature the same controls. Players need to move the joystick left to right in a perfect rhythm to maximize their speed.
Downhill skiing and slalom are also similar to each other. In the downhill event players build more speed than in slalom and must pass through gates. Slalom requires more control as players must swerve around each flag.
During the ski jump you are given a first-person perspective as you head down the ramp. While in the air the view changes to a third-person perspective where you must keep each ski at the correct angle and switch to a 45 degree angle right before landing.
The luge is a fast-paced event as you fly down an ice covered track. Four courses are available for selection.
Figure skating allows players to choreograph their own programs. Select one of seven musical pieces, from jazz to rock. As you listen to the music insert moves into the program. When the performance begins players must try to perform the moves at the same moment where they inserted the moves in the musical piece.
