Ordered the Roamio OTA VOX in order to still have a DVR without having cable. The set-up was relatively quick and easy. It does take a little getting used to the new menus and recording set-up options. Quality of the recorded shows is just as good as a cable DVR. Its easy to switch between the antenna and the apps and the program guide is really great to have.

The unit does everything it says it's going to do but it requires an excellent signal. If you do not have a strong signal you will not get good reception nor a good quality recording. It isn't efficient to get you from one place to another. I don't know the technical way to explain it but you got to click the okay button many times to get back to where you want to get. You have to peel the onion to get anywhere. So make sure that you have excellent reception and be prepared for excessive user interaction.

The Tivo Roamio OTA VOX replaced a twelve year old dying LG DVR back when VCR Plus was an option. The functionality of the Tivo is fantastic. I have an amplified roof top antenna and it scanned 79 channels in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia region. I love the WiFi and video apps. Recording OTA programs using the Guide is a snap. Since it comes with lifetime service there's no monthly fees.

We have a ChannelMaster DVR that is a few years old and has always had problems with crashes, long delays, and various idiosyncrasies. We considered getting a newer model ChannelMaster but finally upgraded to the TiVo and love it. It gets more channels, is blazing fast, skips commercials (on some channels), and has much better program info. And no crashes so far.

The version 4 software is awful the guide and programming very hard to use. I had to downgrade to version 3 to get a version I could follow. In doing so I lost the vox ( voice command is not supported on this version). I had to call support to get this addressed, I could not find any information about it on the web. The hardware is the same great Tivo
