The ST3300555SS gives you more storage for your photos, videos, and other files. Plenty of memory means you can keep what is important. However, that’s not all. The 300GB SAS drives give you faster access to those files as well. The Cheetah was among the first commercial 10k or 15K hard drives on the market. It operates at high speeds beyond conventional 5400 and 7200RPM hard drive speeds. The Seagate hard drives have been named specifically for this defining feature. The accessories included with these drives will depend on the packaging. The Seagate 300GB Cheetah T10 typically comes with the owner’s manual and a software disc. Seagate has configured the ST3300555SS drive for the 3.5-inch form factor. This form factor is generally associated with desktop computers and 3.5-inch drive bays. This model weighs just under 2 pounds and measures 9.7 by 8.9 by 2.7 inches. This hard drive will fit whether you have a large PC tower or a small HTPC case. An alternative to internal installation is an external HDD enclosure. Such enclosures enable you to use a hard disk in an external and portable manner. The Seagate T10 has an SAS interface. SAS stands for Serial Attached SCSI. SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface. SAS is an alternative to SATA that provides certain performance benefits. This is particularly so when you couple a high RPM with a relatively low capacity. It’s important to note that this hard drive requires an enclosure with an SAS or SAS/SATA connection. In an enclosure, the power will generally be delivered via USB and/or connection to a wall outlet.The brand name for this hard drive line is reserved for hard drives that operate at 10K or 15K RPM. In the case of the Seagate ST3300555SS, it spins at 15,000 rotations per minute. That indicates how many times the platter can complete a 360-degree rotation in 60 seconds. The faster platters can spin, the faster hard drives are able to read and write data. Thus, 10k or 15k provides a great deal of read-write speed. This Seagate model also has a 16MB cache memory. That cache facilitates the transfer of data from the platter to the system. The 16MB of cache memory supplements the unit’s speed.These Seagate 300GB SAS drives feature eight read/write data heads. The average read speed is 3.5 milliseconds, and the average write speed is 4.0 milliseconds. This hard drive achieves a minimum sustainable disc transfer of 55.5 MB/s and a maximum of 93 MB/s. The SAS interface can handle up to 300 MB/s per port. Start time is less than three seconds after DC power is provided. It can also be fully operational from standby faster than that. Standard OEM drives are formatted to 512 bytes per block.

    DELL PowerEdge 2950 OEM 300GB SAS Drive - The real deal!

    After losing one of these drives in my Dell server I was dismayed to find that Dell no longer sells them. Searching the internet and eBay I came across this one (NEW) and many used. Not wanting to compromise my server I bought this drive and am soo thankful that I did. The drive came with the Dell hardware allowing me to simply open the package and insert in my server. PERFECT! Fixed my RAID and my server is back to factory perfect.
