Theoretically Awesome, but fell totally flat
I was super excited to replace my trusty Evolis Badgy 200 with this beast of a printer! All of the extra options it came with (ability to print fluorescent/free upgrade to a dual sided printer/etc). However my what should be great experience has been marred significantly can't small issues that I can't seem to fix. 1) I for the life of me can't get it to print edge to edge for anything. I've tried recalibration and everything and it just won't do it. 2) when I changed out the YMC ribbon it came with for a new YMCFK ribbon all of the sudden there's creases in my prints. i can see how maybe a new, non refurbished product that comes with the required software would definitely be a great product, but a standalone used should be passed by unless you have the time to troubleshoot small issues ... Overall a great printer, best reverse transfer printer for the money
Great quality printer. The warm up time is a bit slow but when it gets going it is pretty quick, speed is the only less then perfect aspect of this machine. There are some faults, such as a slight bending of the cards with single sided printing as well as a lack of free software to use with the printer capable of using its full functionality. Out of the box it prints some great quality images with a large gamut range. I have observed the graphics under a microscope and the lack of visible dots is a huge plus, the HDP method creates lines to make images and the lines are no more then a couple microns thick. Great gradients and colors are beautiful. If you need a high quality printer, get a reverse transfer. and if you want a good reverse transfer at a cheap price get the hdp5000. Edge to ... High Defenition quality, ability to add modules as you grow
The HDP500 is a great printer. It's about one of the only printers that is non DTC (Direct To Card) meaning the printer will use a re-transfer film to put the ribbon onto the film and then re-tranfer onto the card saving the print head of much wear and tear. Also because of the re-transfer process you get an OVER THE EDGE print so no white border on the card. One drawback is the printer lacks monochrome ribbons. The only monochrome ribbon is black and if you want to print white on a red card, this printer is not for you.The HDP500 is a great printer.
