Keeping up with the design and technologies included in the series of APC UPS network management cards, the AP9617 model allows you to use a dynamic host configuration protocol server to provide communication TCP/IP values. When this management card is fully configured, it will detect 10/100 megabytes per second connection, ultimately providing the ability to communicate with other management cards installed on the same network. Enjoy the ability to monitor activities of your UPS system remotely with the data and event logs, which are accessible through your FTP, Telnet, and Internet networking system. The APC UPS network management card gives all APC Smart-UPS systems their full capabilities. Without the use of this card all monitoring and settings must be performed with the use of a cabled connection to your computer. Among its many capabilities, the APC Smart-UPS management card generates system log messages, limits email notifications, monitors battery life, and generates application modules for the UPS device. Should a prolonged power outage occur that affects your home office or business electronics equipment, this management card will perform a graceful shutdown of all connected machines. To assist you with installation and all necessary IP configurations, an easy-to-follow CD is included with the APC AP9617 UPS network management card when it arrives. As its manufacturer, APC holds the patent on many types of technologies that are used in the creation of their Smart-UPS management cards. Among these technologies is the PowerChute Network Shutdown utility. The APC UPS management card offers the support necessary for this function to work. With the card installed, you can create settings that will designate which pieces of equipment hooked to the system should be shut down in the proper order. This ensures that when specific pieces of equipment must continue working, they will. With the capabilities of creating these sequence setups, you are not stuck searching for proper ports to shut down in an emergency. The APC UPS management card fits securely in the SmartSlot located on the APC UPS devices. Use the featured USB 2.0 slot on the UPS device to download all log information when necessary. Information that is available through the management card includes voltage readings, increased power consumption records, temperature readings, battery life of the UPS device, and more. This USB slot doubles as another serial connection port for adding additional pieces of compatible equipment.     An oldie but works fine.

    The item is reliable. The design has been around for a while and is stable. But old design. I scored a disused APC UPS and now it network reports so my Synology NASs will sleep when there is a power failure which is really cool. The setup is a mission.

    Good addition to the APC UPS, but required some effort to get it working.

    The AP9617 does exactly what I wanted, but it wasn't as simple as plug and play. This device, being older, required some updating to get it to work with current browsers. The one I purchased hadn't been reset to factory defaults and there was no indication of what its IP address was. Pressing the reset button on the back for 20 seconds only resets that username and password to factory defaults, not the IP address. The APC software didn't detect the device when it was plugged into the network and I began to think I had a dead unit. To figure out the IP address, I ended up plugging a computer directly into the card and used Wireshark to analyze the packets for traffic coming from the AP9617. Once I had that, I was good to go.

    Network interface

    The cards work fine for monitoring ups units. Some are difficult to set up by the network method and their IP Utility. No problems setting up if you have the special APC serial cable.

    Be sure you have the right cable, as these cards are used and can only be reset via a special serial cable. Card works as advertised. No issues.
