This unit is a combination of MODEM and ROUTER at a decent price. With DOCSIS 3.1, you get the latest standard with high performance that includes: FOUR ethernet connections plus WI-FI at 2.4Gig and 5G bandwidth. Motorola puts all this into one package at about half-the price of two separate units that control MODEM or ROUTER. XFINITY high speed internet is required for GIG performance. When all is said and done, you get what you pay for. FInally, make sure you have Cat6 or above COAX cables running from the outside cable box to your modem. Many older homes have older style cables that will create all kinds of noise on the line along with data transmission errors. If this is a new install by the cable company, they'll know to use the good cable. If DIY, spend another $30 and run new coax to your modem. Makes a big difference on performance.Read full review
