Hi All, I purchased this product for three reasons.1)My systems primary hard drive is 3 years old and I felt that a back up drive was in order... just in case number 1 failed. 2)I had recently installed a television tuner board and I found that recording TV shows requires a lot of HD space.3)I had also recently installed a video editing program and found that the saved videos require a lot of HD space.I chose the WD Caviar Black just because the WD brand is as good or better than any available HD.I think there are well built drives and there are also duds in every batch of any make and model of HD. This time I bought the WD. What the heck. It may crap out in two years but so might any other brand. I have had the new WD drive for about two months so I can't comment on durability but I can say that the install was a breeze. My drive did not come with WD software but downloading the driver and setup program from WD was no problem. Also, my new HD did not come with any cables or mounting screws and this a bit of an inconvenience and meant that I had to forgo install until I was able to gather the rest of the needed parts. The Ebay price was good so I wasn't rattled by this. Just be aware. I wound up using this new drive as the primary, (C:) drive because it is faster than what came with my HP. Transfering the info from the old drive to this new drive was a snap with the WD software download.Read full review

I bought this drive to replace my dying Seagate 100gig drive and to upgrade to something bigger. I like the drive because it functions flawlessly, seeks fast and so far has been very reliable. I've always had good luck and experiences with Western Digital products. Drawbacks, some say this drive is noisy. It is a tiny bit noisier than the Seagate but since my unit is below my desktop I rarely even hear it or the system fans. I will definitely go with Western Digital again in the future.
Works good, it has good speeds. First I tought it had a slow access speed (it was on 17,3), but the standard settings for AAM is set to low noise, I used the HD Tune pro to change it to high performance (254) then it went to 12,3. I am satisfied :)
Great hard drive. Its docked in my ext sabrent so I can hear it. Maybe if it were internal it would change my opinion of its noise volume.
