Have had this scanner for almost 2 years. We are primarily using it to copy our paper pictures into digital format (jpg). So far it has scanned over 15,000 with good quality. The images can be named during the scanning process and are automatically uploaded to our network document storage computer where they are searchable and easier to find. We can copy and take them with us on a tablet and show them on the TV. You can download a program to creating job configurations for the different types of images (jpg, PDF, tiff). The configurations are uploaded to the scanner and are accessed by the touch screen buttons. The job configurations are a bit of a challenge but the downloadable program helps with that. We also scan almost all of our documents into PDF images. They are easier to find and the paper clutter is gone. Just remember to regularly do you BACKUPS in at least 2 seperate places.Read full review

I returned it. for an easy refund (Less shipping) I originally got it for the specs, fast and network install. It never happened. I could get it on the network but could not get it to pair with my windows 10 computer. It may have been win 10, the software which I had to download, I am not sure but when it gets too complicated I don't need the aggravation.

Network scanner: Does not dangle via USB to computer. Which is exactly as intended, but I've seen some clients be confused by this. Excellent document scanner for grayscale, and up to 600 DPI which is pretty decent. Decently fast at 600 DPI, blazing at 300. However, whether your target is a flash drive, FTP, network drive, or other, this scanner first loads to internal memory and only after that does it pass the data on. Each time it fills internal memory, it requires manually navigating the menu tree to confirm you're sending/saving files, so there's significantly more user interaction time than just choosing a location one time, filling the hopper, and getting work done. Walking the send menu every single time is a serious pain. Especially as, at 600 DPI scanning in color, you can scan a total of three photos before the internal memory is full and it's menu walking time again. At 300 DPI grayscale, you're still menu walking about every 50-60 physical letter sized pages. It's fast, and it's worth it as compared to a non-duplexing scanner without a hopper if you've got physical yards of grayscale to jam through, but it's definitely a clunky system for folks seriously wanting or expecting to load and go.Read full review

I would have expected there to be more *stand-alone* devices on the market, but this segment is apparently statisfied mostly by large copy machines with added features. There are only about 5-6 alternatives to this Canon currently, and they are pretty much all unusable. (I've tried HP, Kodak, Xerox, a Xerox clone I forgot the name of, and others) The interface on the Canon is pretty well done and works well. All of the scanning functions actually work. The fax setup can be integrated with a in-house fax server or a remote service. The LDAP sync functions well. The scanning is quick and previews render quickly. They are quite expensive for such a small device, but compared to the competition - It's well worth it.
