I needed to upgrade from XP to use FDTI VCP USB drivers. The older drivers were no longer supported. PC is a Dell Vostro 1310 w/ 1.8 Gigahertz Core 2 Duo and 2 gigs of ram. Handles windows 7 Pro just fine. Drivers need a two step process installation- first the bus layer, then the USB virtual com port layer, in that order. Got it working after the learning process which took some time, but well worth it. Windows update sluggish but eventually installs latest critical updates and runs fine. This is the OS to use as a upgrade for XP or Vista on an older machine. Registering requires smart phone call to Microsoft since online registration is no longer supported-the process went smoothly following easy step by step instructions. Recommended.

I had Geek Squad install it since I had a good protection and repair contract with them. For $299 they will install Webroot (their security software) on 3 of my devices for 3 years while taking care of any problems. When my Lenovo Thinkpad crashed I could not find a Windows Vista recovery CD but Geek Squad advised me to get Windows 7, the only OS that would perform on the 32-bit processor the device has. At the same time, I got advice to upgrade the RAM to 4G from its original 2G. I bought the OS and, at the same time, 2 - 2G RAM hardware online and, under my protection plan, Geek Squad installed the RAM hardware and the new Windows 7 OS, plus Webroot for NOTHING; all covered under the protection/repair service. Just to install the RAM and OS would have cost me as much as $160, plus the Webroot at $50/year. I am really glad I bought the service and am about to break even, considering the Webroot costs and all the repair. By the time the 3 years is up, I will be ahead regarding the total value received.Read full review

I was a bit reluctant to purchase this software after reading several horror stories about activation of the software. However, since my Win XP Pro was no longer supported, I decided to purchase one copy of the Win 7 Pro and had no problem installing and activating it. Since then, I purchased another two copies and activated them as well without issue. While Windows 7 is not the "latest, greatest" Windows operating system, it has proven to be reliable and all of my Win XP programs work perfectly. In my opinion, it beats Win 8.x hands down, which I have on another computer.

The software installed flawlessly...my first time to install OS. Installed on very old HP laptop with only 2G (max) memory. Works great. I had trouble couple of days trying to activate but found I was repeatedly entering the number 8 instead of the letter B. My advice to avoid my error is to take a photo of the KEY and enlarge it, then the B was very obvious. Silly, but it worked fantastic except for my inattention. Highly recommend this product.
