Unusualearly glass stoppered apothecary jar with original wrap around label (3 sides)for Frasier’s Whooping Cough No. 4 Tablets from the Fraser Tablet Company, NewYork, Brooklyn, Chicago, and St. Louis.Clear glass bottle stands 5.5” tall to the top of the stopper. The bottle has a chip off the underside of thelip on the right back side but otherwise is in good condition (chip is notvisible when bottle is displayed). Theback of the bottle is boldly embossed “Fraser” on the back panel. The bottle originally contained 500 tabletsbut is now empty. The bottle has itsoriginal label in fair-good condition with overall light soiling and stainingand wear on the high points where it wraps around the corners of thebottle. The label has darkened slightlyfrom age and is missing small portions on the bottom of the side labels. The bottle lists all the ingredients, withsecond ingredient being “Heroin Hydrochl. 1-200gr.” The stopper is original with a paper labelreading “Whooping Cough No. 4” and is frozen in the neck of the bottle andcannot be removed. This is an amazingpiece of American medical history, from the very early 1900’s when patentmedicines actually contained morphine, cannabis, opium, and even heroin.
