Large Beaded Paiute Washoe Indian Basket Bernheimer Collection Native American
Price: US $109.39

Offered is lovely Paiute Washoe Indian Beaded Basket from the Bernheimer Collection.
This is a good-sized basket, measuring 4\" across and 2 1/2\" tall.
A beautiful design in orange, two shades of green, blue, red, and gold beads. It is an older one and shows a bit of age--slight beadloss and gaps in stitches. Still solid and no beads currently coming loose. Please see pictures.
The artist is not mentioned but the slip of paper that comes with it identifies it as either number 427 or 56 from his collection. He had one of the largest known collections of these native beaded baskets. Many of the baskets in his collection were described in a book called The Stories Baskets Tell by Carole McAllister and Carlon Andre. I couldn\'t find this particular basket listed, but the closest number was 422, made by Ciara Sam Castillo in the Walker River Style. This one has some of those characteristics--Design over rim and on bottom. But again, this particular basket was not mentioned in booklet. Another note about his collection from the book:\" The Bernheimer collection of beaded baskets charts the history of an art form, native to a particular place and time. Aside from the cultural stories it imparts and the tradition it represents, its importance lies in the quality of art represented. Outstanding artists of the past are exhibited in works attributed to Edna Foster, Mary Wilson, Maggie Howard, Lucy Tom and premier beaded basket artists Celia Arnot, Lucy Telles, Carrie Bethel and her sister Minnie Mike. In addition, the collection also contains examples of highly respected contemporary artists, such as Norm DeLorme, Bernie DeLorme, Celia DeLorme, Fay DeLorme, Becky Eagle, and Sandy Eagle.\"Important Note: We will gladly combine orders of sales run each week. OurNative American and First Nation items have been collected from variousplaces--sales, estate sales, pow wows and craft stores from our travels. Many of our Quill Boxes come from Manitoulin Island, where we spend part of each summer. We hate to let some of these items go but with our children in college, it\'s time to liquidate some of the collection and share our items with others.
