This large bowie knife is 13 5/8 inches long overall with a heavy 9 1/4 inch carbon steel blade. It has a wood handle with a brass guard and two brass collars. The pommel nut is a square nut soldiered in in place. There is soldier around the joint of the guard too but is has broken loose long ago. The knife appears to be home made and has a name Rex Wil carved into its handle. It comes with a thick leather tube style sheath. This item is used and has lots of wear. The blade has been sharpened and has some discoloration and pitting. The guard and the collar under it are loose. The handle has some cracking but feels tight and solid. The sheath has lots of general wear and a faint tobacco smell. This knife looks plenty old enough to me to be Civil War era, but its exact age is unknown, so you\'ll have to use your own judgement.
