Up for sale is a well-crafted old Cherokee Indian splint oak market basket. It has beautiful detailing, with its oblong shape, thick and sturdy handle, and striped pattern on the sides. This handle is of bentwood oak which was goes all the way around the underside and is finished with one of the unique Cherokee locking splints. The rim is of double carved bentwood and finished with evenly spaced oak wraps. The basket has an oak framework, and the weavers are also composed of narrow oak splints. It is old enough to have developed an awesome aged patina. This is a classic Cherokee oak basket and would have been made in the early years of the past century. It has certainly seen its share of honest work. This well-crafted Cherokee Indian basket will make a terrific addition to someone\'s collection.

The basket, as noted, is a large one measuring 16½\" x 10\" across at the rim, 8½\" deep, and 14\" tall to the top of the handle. Because of its advanced age, there are a number of breaks and missing splints throughout, although it still holds together and has no gaping holes or serious damage. The thick handle with its supporting locking splint is in perfect shape and the rim with its wraps is all intact. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket\'s features and condition. It\'s a very nice old Cherokee Indian oak basket, and it makes an awesome piece for use or display.
