Very, very reluctantly I am selling off the last few Royal Doulton character jugs of what was once a very extensive collection. The listings that I have placed on today represent my absolute favourite jugs and ones that have survived the previous sales!

This sale is for my cherished prototype colourway jug of General Gordon, D6869. You will see that it is a very dark red colourway as opposed to the usual orange.

I had spent my entire collecting career seeking to find a prototype version of general Gordon and was delighted to finally acquire it! It cost me almost £2000...

It was purchased via the American Toby Jug Museum run by renowned collector Steve Mullins. This exact jug features in the supplement to 'A Century of Royal Doulton Character & Toby Jugs' bookproduced by Steve Mullins and David Fastenau. A copy of the photograph and page from that book is produced above.

The General Gordon jug was commissioned by UK International Ceramics. As a further sign of authenticity this jug has 'UK International Ceramics Copy' handwritten beneath the glaze.

This jug has been my absolute pride and joy but needs must and it has to go.
