Up for sale is an attractive large older basket from the Jicarilla, one of the native tribes of the Apache federation from the Southwest US. The Apache weavers of that region are renowned for their excellent basket weaving, and this is a very nice vintage example. The basket is made of coiled grasses, and has deep round shape with two side handles formed by elongating the rim. The sides are decorated in a pattern of embellished diamond and triangle motifs in colors of gold, deep red, coral, and blue. The rim is braided, and the rim end is nicely tapered and finished off. The basket is old enough to have developed a subtle golden patina, which is definitely lighter on the underside, another indicator of honest age. A beautiful artifact!

The basket is a nice large size for one of these vintage Jicarilla Apache baskets, measuring 7¼\" across at the rim (9\" from handle to handle), and with a nice deep depth to it, 9¼\" inches deep. This basket is in just outstanding condition. Aside from a single missing wrap on the tip of one of the handles, the basket has no flaws, stains, breaks, or any other damage. The pretty colors are still clear and unfaded. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket\'s features and condition. This is a lovely example of innovative Jicarilla Apache weaving from the middle years of the past century and will make a beautiful addition to someone\'s collection of Native American baskets.
