Petro-oils and sprays vs. synthetics:

Real oil is made up of a mixture of longand short chains of carbon and hydrogen atoms, and under certain conditions theshort-chain molecules evaporate, and the unstable molecules oxidize and breakdown. This leaves a sticky residue which can actually “gum up” the device itwas intending to lubricate. Conventional oils also contain varying amounts ofimpurities, such as sulfur, waxes, and unstable hydrocarbons which are leftbehind as residue deposits.
Spray lubricants such as silicone andWD-40 also dry up after a short amount of time because the carrier agentevaporates, and they eventually become gummy.
In contrast, synthetic oils are made usinga process that re-arranges the structure so all the molecules are uniform insize, shape, and weight, an ideal phenomenon which does not occur in nature. Whilepetroleum-based oils that are extracted from the ground must then be refined toattempt to minimize their shortcomings, synthetics are custom-designed toproduce the ultimate lubricant, with inherentperformance characteristics vastly superior to any petro-oil or spray.
Using synthetics after using petro-oils orsprays:
It is perfectly safe to begin using Liquid Bearingson any wind-up toys that you own immediately, even if you have been lubricating themwith conventional oils or sprays for years or decades. It is fully compatiblewith all vintage and current oils and other lubricants, and will eventuallyflush away the residue of the evaporated oils and carrier agentsovertime.
