MACK LJSW DUMPS & BUCYRUS-ERIE SHOVEL, GULL CONTRACTING, NYC 8x10 B&W PHOTO
Price: US $9.99

This photo is an excellent high quality new 8” x 10” black & white photo reproduction a late 1940s/early 1950s MACK LJSW Six-Wheel Dump Truck owned by GULL CONTRACTING CO. Inc. of New York City being loaded under a BUCYRUS-ERIE SHOVEL.

”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image. Laying the “SAMPLE” sheet over the photo for the scan, causes the image to be slightly yellowed. Your photo reproduction will be pure black & white with no yellow cast.

DESCRIPTION: Two Gull Contracting Co. MACK ‘LJSW’ Six Wheel Dump Trucks are loading under a BUCYRUS-ERIE Shovel, on what may be a highway construction excavation.

GULL CONTRACTING CO., INC.: A prominent heavy contractor in the New York City area for many years, Gull was involved in many NYC Expressways, Subways, and Tunnels. Gull Contracting equipment was often painted their trademark Red in color. As late as 1949 they went under the name of ANDREW GULL CORP. I know nothing further about them. If you have any knowledge, I would appreciate hearing from you.

HISTORY OF THE MACK LJ: The “L Series” of heavy haulage Macks was introduced in 1940 and produced until 1956. Early models were Thermodyne 707-cid gasoline engine powered, with most later models being diesel powered with the Mack 672-cid engine. Some 31,000 of the L Series were produced, with some 13,931 LJ’s being built, making it the most popular of the L Series. The designation “SW” indicated a six wheeler, as they called tandems at that time.
